MERIDIAN —     Meridian is one of the top destinations in the U.S. for country music fans, according to the website.

Meridian was listed in the top eight destinations in the country in the list that included Nashville, Tenn., Branson, Mo., Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Dyess, Ark., Memphis, Tenn., Winchester, Va., Hurricane Mills, Tenn., and the Jimmie Rodgers Museum and Festival in Meridian.

“Hop into your best pair of jeans and cowboy boots and head to where country music is king, from Virginia to Missouri here are eight destinations that celebrate all that is country music," the website states.

“We are so pleased to know that national recognition is being given to our efforts to perpetuate the legacy of our native son Jimmie Rodgers, The Father of Country Music, through The Jimmie Rodgers Museum and Festival," said Betty Lou Jones, president of The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation. "We invite everyone to visit our fine museum and support our festival through financial support and attendance.     "This is definite evidence of the potential of Jimmie Rodgers and cultural tourism in our future economic development. We are a major factor now and have much potential for the future with a spirit of cooperation and teamwork we can achieve much for this community.”

"All Meridianites should be proud of the recognition that this announcement will bring our community," said Wade Jones, president of the East Mississippi Development Corporation. "The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation Board and volunteers are to be commended for the tireless hours they have devoted over the years in maintaining the Jimmie Rodgers Museum and conducting the annual Jimmie Rodger's Festival.

"Artist and country music enthusiasts from across the globe will recognize the significance of this designation and be drawn to Meridian to experience the life of our native son, Jimmie Rodgers."

“This is truly a credit to our community and to the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation," Wade added. "Being recognized on a national level for our history, heritage and culture reflects highly upon our various partners working together to promote Meridian. As evident by the other communities listed, we are in good company.”
