MERIDIAN —     Authorities with the Meridian Police Department are currently investigating several incidents that happened in the city in the past 36 hours.

MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said detectives are working an armed robbery incident that reportedly occurred at a local convenience store. Harper said when officers arrived they were informed by the clerk a black man entered the store and displayed a firearm. After the suspect grabbed an undetermined amount of cash, Harper said the suspect fled on foot.

Harper said the suspect is described as a short, stocky black male who had his face covered.

The clerk was not injured during the incident.

There was no information released by MPD officials as to when or where this incident occurred.

MPD authorities are asking the public to help identify a suicide victim that was found Tuesday morning in a building near Cooper Avenue. Harper said the victim can only be described as an older white male who has had extensive dental work.

If you have information about this individual, contact the MPD at 601-485-1863.

Harper also said an investigation is ongoing into a shooting incident that occurred early Thursday morning.

Harper said the man, who was shot in the lower back, was found in a vacant lot in Meridian. Harper said because of the lack of cooperation from the victim further details are very limited and the case is not progressing.

If you have information on this case or any other incident in Meridian, call Crime Stoppers at 601-485-1860.
