Two men, who led deputies on a foot chase Tuesday, are now charged in connection with recent burglaries in the county.
Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun said that Travis Bryant Russell, 21, and David Wesley Evans, also 21, have each been charged with attempted burglary. No bonds have been issued for either of the men and they are being held at the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Facility in Meridian.
"The investigation is ongoing and we are still working on some late details," Calhoun said.
Calhoun said Evans was captured Tuesday afternoon after deputies arrived at a residence on Zero Road to a report of a burglary in progress. Evans and Russell were observed by deputies walking out of a wooded area onto Purvis Road near the home deputies were originally called. When Evans and Russell saw the deputies they fled on foot into the woods. Evans was caught a short time later but Russell was able to elude deputies and tracking dogs.
Calhoun said Russell turned himself in to authorities later Tuesday night.
