The Meridian Star
Meridian Little Theatre is pleased to welcome back Ronnie Miller as interim director of the first show of the season, Legally Blonde.
As MLT’s interim artistic director, Miller will oversee everything that goes onstage for Legally Blonde. He will work closely with Musical Director, David Benson and Choreographer, Carol Merrill.
"He has a strong understanding of set design and technical equipment," said Sidney Covington, a spokesperson with MLT. "After seeing his work on last season’s Bye Bye Birdie, the Meridian Little Theatre’s Board of directors appreciated his attention to detail when communicating his vision to his cast, crew and ultimately his audience."
For that reason, Covington said Miller was their number one choice when faced with the recent resignation of artistic director, Warren Friedman.
Miller graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Master of the Arts from the Theatre department. He worked in the Fine Arts Division at Meridian Community College for 40 years ultimately chairing that division. Miller has appeared in and directed over 100 plays during his career. His impressive theatre experiences have even spanned across the Atlantic Ocean where he did a summer study at the National Theatre in London, England and attended workshops in Scarborough, England. Among his many honors and awards, Meridian Community College named their art gallery The Ronnie Miller Art Gallery. In 2002, Miller was received the Cowboy Maloney Award for Outstanding Contributions to Theatre in Mississippi for the Mississippi Theatre Association. He was also added to the MCC Hall of Fame in 2003.
Legally Blonde will grace the MLT stage from October 17-23, 2013. Legally Blonde follows sorority star Elle Woods, who doesn't take "no" for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more "serious," Elle puts down her credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law School. Along the way, Elle learns that being true to yourself is a quality that never goes out of style.
Based on the popular film starring Reese Witherspoon, this fun show will have you rooting for Elle and her unconventional ways from start to finish.
Auditions will be held August 26-27. For more information please see the website, www.meridianlittletheatre.com.
