Fire injures family

MERIDIAN —  Two adults and two children were hospitalized Friday morning with severe burns following a Friday morning trailer fire.

Meridian Fire Department Chief Anthony Clayton said the small wood frame structure in the Campground Trailer Park located in the 2500 block of Highway 45 North was fully involved when firefighting units and personnel arrived on the scene at about 9:40 a.m.

"The victims were outside the home when units arrived and the inside of the home was full of flames and smoke," Clayton said. "The structure was saved but the inside was pretty much destroyed."

The entire family, which included two children and a mother and father, was transported to Meridian hospital emergency rooms with severe burn injuries. Clayton said he didn't have an update on how their conditions were by late Friday.     Clayton Cobler of Metro Ambulance said the two children were airlifted Friday but he said he wasn't sure if they were taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson or if they were flown to a burn center in Alabama.

The ages of the children was unknown.

MFD fire investigators and authorities from the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office were on the scene to try and determine the cause of the fire that quickly spread throughout the small structure.

"We are still looking into the cause and hopefully we will have some answers soon," MFD fire investigator Jason Collier said from the scene.
