Police say burglar caught in act

MERIDIAN —     On Tuesday, police arrested a man accused of breaking into a car after a concerned citizen observed the suspect's suspicious behavior.

Meridian Police Department Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said police have now charged Daniel R. Baxley, 29, of Meridian with auto burglary. Baxley was placed on $15,000 bond.

Harper said the incident occurred Sunday afternoon in the 7700 block of Old Eighth Street Road. Harper said the prompt actions of the resident in calling 911 and reporting what they saw were instrumental in officers catching Baxley in the act of burglarizing the vehicle.

Harper said MPD officers were called to the 1100 block of 48th Avenue Tuesday at 7:33 a.m. on a call of two auto burglaries. The owner showed police where entry was made through the door on each vehicle and miscellaneous items were stolen from each vehicle.

Police were also called to an auto burglary in the 4000 block of 5th Street on Monday at 9:35 a.m. The owner showed police where entry was made into their vehicle through the door and miscellaneous items were stolen.

Police strongly advise residents to either remove all valuable items from their vehicle or put them out of sight. Police urge vehicle owners to always lock their doors and park their vehicles where they can be seen clearly by the owner or in the case of nighttime, under bright lights to discourage criminals.
