Blues Traveler brings new album tour to MSU Riley Center

MERIDIAN — With hits like “Run-around” and “Hook,” Grammy-winning jam band Blues Traveler has been adding its heavy dose of harmonica to the college-scene soundtrack for 26 years.

John Popper and his bandmates released their 11th studio album—“Suzie Cracks the Whip”—last year, filling it with their trademark blues-rock, along with interesting collaborations in singing and songwriting.

Blues Traveler comes to Meridian on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m., with a pre-show at 6 p.m.

For a quarter century, faithful fans have been flocking to Blues Traveler concerts known for intense jam sessions, lengthy harmonica riffs, and seemingly endless segues that morph into yet another favorite song.

The band’s release of studio albums has been steady since 1990. The most recent album features several collaborators, including American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox and the Spin Doctors’ lead singer Chris Barron. Also for the past 20 years, Blues Traveler has consistently headlined the traditional July 4th concert at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Blues Traveler music is likely to be a hit with fans of Spin Doctors, Counting Crows and the Dave Matthews Band/

What Critics Say: "Though Suzie Cracks the Whip isn’t a reinvention of Blues Traveler, it does rediscover what’s made them resonate with listeners for a quarter century."  — Fady Khalil,

Tickets are $65 and $59 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
