Meridian Police Department authorities said late Tuesday detectives were investigating a shooting incident that they believe occurred in the central section of Meridian around 4 p.m.
MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said at the time an investigation was underway and that details of the shooting were sketchy. The only thing known at that time was that there was a person in a Meridian hospital emergency room being treated for a gunshot wound.
"It is very early in the investigation process and detectives are trying as quickly as they can to ascertain what happened, where it happened, and why it happened," Harper said. "We are trying to get all the facts as quickly as we can."
According to sources, MPD detectives and patrol officers were called to Anderson Regional Medical Center's emergency room to a report of a person being brought in by a private vehicle who was suffering from a gunshot wound. There was no information as to the extent of the injury, if it was life threatening or not.
