MERIDIAN — The Mississippi Emergency Managment Agency released the followings statement:

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has received a report of one death and numerous injuries in Kemper County due to severe weather moving through the state. Reports indicate several damaged structures throughout the county.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are affected by this severe weather,” said Gov. Phil Bryant.

Initial damage reports also indicate damage to structures and trees and power lines down in Noxubee County near Macon and Shuqualak.

“I have been in contact with Director Latham at MEMA about the ongoing weather situation,” said Gov. Bryant. “We have deployed state resources to Kemper County, at the request of local officials. We are prepared to send additional assets and resources as necessary to assist local governments in their response efforts.”

Updates of reported damages will be released as they become available, officials said.

Severe weather is still moving through the state.  Residents should continue to monitor local media or stay tuned to a NOAA weather radio for severe weather warnings as they are issued and take appropriate actions.

The public is encouraged to follow MEMA on Twitter and Facebook for updates.
