Two arrests made in connection with sex offender

MERIDIAN —     A convicted sex offender and the woman he was living with have been arrested by Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department authorities.

LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun said Tywan Cornelius Wraggs, 35, and Sabrina Joyce Clark, 39, have been charged in the case. Calhoun said Wraggs, who just recently was released from prison on a sexual battery conviction out of Winston County, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and probation violation. His bond request has been denied, Calhoun said. Clark was charged with harboring a sex offender. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Calhoun said authorities had been by Clark's home, located at 107 71st Place in Meridian, several times in search of Wraggs. LCSD authorities said Wraggs was not complying with guidelines required for a sex offender. Calhoun said finally deputies were able Tuesday around 3 p.m. to locate Wraggs at Clark's home and take him into custody. Because Clark knew authorities were looking for Wraggs and he was ultimately found in her home, she was arrested and charged with harboring Wraggs, officials said.

Calhoun said convicted sex offenders who choose to move into Lauderdale County have three days in which to sign in with county authorities. If the offender chooses to move again within the borders of the county, they then have 10 days to register their new address.

Sex offenders must also report to the nearest Mississippi Highway Patrol District Headquarters and obtain a sex offender identification card. The subject must then report to the MHP every 90 days to keep his current address listing valid.

"We have a deputy whose job it is to track sex offenders in our county," said Calhoun. "It is a full time job to keep all them in the places they should be. If they violate any of the guidelines of their residency, we will go looking for them."

According to authorities at the LCSD, there are about 229 convicted sex offenders living in Lauderdale County listed in the sex offender register.
