MERIDIAN — A sign of progress, the building on 22nd Avenue that will house the Meridian Police Department now has the MPD name on it. The former Cowboy Maloney building is 44,000 square feet and has been in the midst of renovations for months. The building was essentially gutted inside and rebuilt to accommodate the police force. Long hallways have numerous rooms where personnel from the shift sergeants to detectives to the administrative staff will have ample room in which to do their jobs. There will be a courtroom, an exercise room, an evidence room and other offices. The current police headquarters has heating and cooling issues, something police personnel are looking forward to leaving behind. The building is expected to be finished in about seven weeks.
