MERIDIAN —     A man Thursday morning tried to rob a local business but was met by a locked door and a determined employee.

According to Meridian Police Department reports, at about 9:10 a.m. Thursday a man walked up to the door of United Cash Advance located at 2410 Highway 39 North and tried to open the door. When an employee inside approached the door to see who was there, she noticed the man had a handgun.

The employee ran back into an office and called 911 Emergency Dispatch. The man, described as a black male wearing a blue shirt and black denim jeans, tried to break the glass door with a rock but was unsuccessful.

With police on the way, the suspect jumped into a blue car, driven by another black man, and sped away.

Police are currently trying to locate the car and the suspects.
