MERIDIAN — Showing trophy wins from the recent Mississippi High School Activities Association State Marching Band Regional Festival at East Mississippi Community College in Sccoba are members of the Pride of Philadelphia High School Band: from left, Tyler Greer, trombone sectional leader, Sarah Hall, drum major, Randi Kelli, trombone sectional leader, Dakota Coleman, drum major, Cameron Higgason, color guard captain, and Antajh Boggan, band president/trumpet sectional leader. The Pride scored a Superior rating in drum major and percussion, and an Excellent rating for band and color guard. The following week, The Pride competed in the Chunky River Marching Band Classic at Union High School. The band, color guard, and percussion scored a Superior rating. The Philly drum line was rated for "Best in Class" percussion with the highest score on the judge's cards for their classification. The drum majors scored an Excellent rating.Band directors are Wayne Benn and Eric Perry; guard instructor is Libby Eldridge; and percussion instructor is Betsy Irons.

A woman died and a man was injured Thursday morning in what a Meridian Police Department official described as a possible domestic dispute. Both suffered gunshot wounds.
MCC to graduate 138 today
Some 138 students will receive their Associate Degrees and certificates this afternoon when Meridian Community College holds its annual summer commencement ceremonies at the Temple Theatre. The program will begin at 1 p.m.
