Thanks to a resident in the Toomsuba-Russell area, investigators with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's department were able Tuesday to arrest one individual who they say was involved in the burglaries that took place Sunday.
LCSD Maj. Casey McElhenney, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said a juvenile was brought in for questioning after information from a resident was given to investigators. The juvenile, whose name was withheld because of their age, was formally charged Tuesday morning with two counts of burglary.
McElhenney said seven reported burglaries in the Lauderdale County area Sunday and another two may also be attributed to the same individuals. He said investigators are working now to locate the others who were involved and to link all the incidents together.
McElhenney said the bulk of the incidents took place within a five mile radius of each other. He said some of the property discovered stolen by homeowners coming home from church has been recovered and will soon be returned to their rightful owners.
McElhenney said he expects more arrests in these cases to come shortly.
Anyone with information about any of the burglaries should call the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department at (601) 482-9806 or CrimeStoppers at (601) 485-1860.
