A Kemper County coal plant employee was hurt only slightly early Thursday morning after the vehicle he was driving hit a horse.

Kemper County Sheriff James Moore said the man, identified as Robert Hackett, 51, had only a sore shoulder. Moore said Hackett was treated by paramedics but was not transported to a hospital.

Moore said the horse was not severely injured and was seen walking off from the accident scene.

Moore said the accident occurred at about 5:15 a.m. on Highway 493 and Willie Glass Road in Kemper County. The car Hackett was driving, a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, suffered some damage to the front, hood, front windshield and roof but was otherwise drivable.

Authorities at the scene said there were three or four other horses that seemed to be running loose. Authorities did not say who the horses belonged to.
