MPD works two robberies

MERIDIAN —     Meridian Police Department detectives are working two robbery cases that reportedly occurred Sunday.

    MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said at about 1 a.m. Sunday police were called to the 3000 block of 12th Street to a report of a robbery and assault. When officers arrived they were told by the victim he was walking in the area when two black men approached him. The victim told police the two men beat him and robbed him of his wallet. The two suspects ran away on foot. The victim did not need medical attention.

    Harper said at about 8 p.m. a man reported he was robbed at gunpoint by a lone black man. The robbery reportedly occurred in the 5800 block of First Street. The victim told detectives the robber drove away in a red truck but that he didn't get a license number. The victim was not hurt.

    Police are asking if anyone has information pertaining to these two incidents or for any other crime in Meridian to call Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860. The information may be worth cash if arrests made lead to a conviction.
