Poster contest deadline extended

The Meridian Star

From staff reports

The deadline for entries in the 2014 Jimmie Rodgers Festival Poster Contest has been extended.

"Due to weather conditions resulting in interruption of normal business and school activities, the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation announced today that the deadline for entries for the Community Bank sponsored poster contest have been extended until Feb. 28," a foundation press release states. "The three week extension will allow more time for those interested in competing in this contest to complete their designs."

Artists of all ages and from all residences are being sought for the poster contest, which is sponsored by the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation (JRF) and Community Bank. The winning entry will be printed as a commemorative poster to publicize the 2014 festival.

Community Bank will provide a $500 prize for the poster contest. The winner will be announced at an EMBDC Business After Hours on March 20, 2014, sponsored by the bank. The artist will be requested to sign the limited edition commemorative posters at that time.

The winner also will receive VIP status during the 2014 festival.

Each entry's theme should represent and be identifiable with Jimmie Rodgers musical legacy, historical and/or cultural elements of the area. Entries must be rendered in full color. Multiple entries are allowed and there is no entry fee.

Five finalists will be selected from all submitted entries, with the final winner selected from those finalists. The Top Five entries will be on exhibit at the Jimmie Rodgers Museum during the festival.

In addition to marketing the 2014 festival, the artwork may also be used on T-shirts, postcards or other festival souvenirs. All sales will go to the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation and the original artwork will remain the property of Jimmie Rodgers Foundation.
