Woman hit by car and killed

MERIDIAN —     A Lauderdale County woman was struck by a car late Wednesday night and killed, according to Lauderdale County officials.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said Thursday morning that Helen Fay McWilliams, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cobler said McWilliams was struck by a northbound car around 11:30 p.m.

Cobler said the incident occurred just inside Lauderdale County near the Kemper County line on Highway 45 North.

Cobler said rainy weather may have been a factor in the accident. Cobler said the woman driving the car was not hurt in the incident.
