MERIDIAN —     Student artists are being sought for the second annual Jimmie Rodgers Poster Contest.

The winning entry will be printed as a commemorative poster, on T-shirts and other souvenir items to publicize the 60th Annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival that will take place in downtown Meridian in May.

The winning artist will be awarded a $500 cash prize, 15 complimentary posters and VIP tickets to the Jimmie Rodgers Festival events.

Sponsored by The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation and Community Bank, organizers will accept poster contest entries until April 12.

“In order to encourage more participation from student artists, we have decided to waive the $20 entry fee for all full time students," said Bob Huff, president of Community Bank in Meridian. "We recognize the value of student participation in this historic contest highlighting our native son — Jimmie Rodgers — and an event that has brought worldwide attention to Meridian for sixty years.”

Betty Lou Jones, president of The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation said, ” This is an excellent way for artists to become a part of this legacy of Meridian’s claim to fame as the birthplace of America’s music, home of Jimmie Rodgers, the father of country music. We encourage all artists to share their talents with the festival and help us promote our musical heritage."

There is no age or residence restriction on poster contest entrants. Winners will be announced at May 2 celebration at Community Bank.
