NAS Meridian publication earns awards

MERIDIAN —     Naval Air Station Meridian's newspaper "The Skyline" recently earned a third place award in the Navy-wide Russell Egnor Navy Media Awards for Best Newspaper.

    The Skyline is published twice a month and distributed to the nearly 3,000 personnel who work on board the installation. It is also featured online at

    The staff of "The Skyline" consists of Penny Randall, editor and writer; Petty Officer 2nd Class Casey Kyhl, photographer and staff writer; and Susan Junkins, public affairs officer.

    Leaders in the U.S. Navy Public Affairs community gathered at sites around the world to review, discuss, and judge more than 1,200 entries encompassing 74 broadcasting, journalism, photography, graphic arts and leadership categories. The awards honor both military members and civilians who work in the Public Affairs and Visual Information specialties.    

    The program promotes training, reinforces high internal media standards, and recognizes and rewards outstanding achievement in Navy media products. The program is named after retired Senior Chief Journalist Russell D. Egnor who served the Navy for more than 40 years as an active duty and reserve Journalist and as the Director of the Navy's News Photo Division at the Navy Office of Information

    This is the second time "The Skyline" was recognized in the best newspaper category.
