MERIDIAN — Staff Reports

Carver Middle School in Meridian is under new leadership.

Dr. Alvin Taylor, superintendent of education for the Meridian Public School District, said on Thursday that Mary Swindell will serve as Interim principal of Carver Middle School for the remainder of this school year. Carver will also receive additional administrative support from Howard Hagwood and Travis Cornish, he said.

They replace Tiffany Plott, principal and Victor Lucas, assistant principal.

"The administrative change was made for the purpose of improving student achievement and doing everything possible to prevent Carver from remaining a failing school," Taylor said.

Plott and Lucas will complete the 2013-14 school year with MPSD, Taylor added.

Taylor said the changes went into effect on Tuesday.

"Ms. Swindell, Mr. Hagwood, and Mr. Cornish have served in numerous instructional and/or leadership positions within the Meridian Public School District over the years," Taylor said. "The process of recruiting a new principal for Carver for the 2014-15 school year will begin in April.”
