MERIDIAN —     Meridian businesswoman LaTaye Davis hopes to empower and help local women achieve greater self-awareness through a series of workshops and special events.

B.I.O. – Beautiful Inside Out – is the first of the empowerment series to be presented by Davis, CEO and founder of Stilettos in the City Consulting Agency. The session is free and open to females ages 16 and older.

The series is designed to meet the needs of participants at whatever their stage of life.

"You may not want to start a business, but my goodness how long have you waited to get your GED? Your degree? Or, to lose weight?" Davis said.

The B.I.O. workshop will provide assistance with these and other concerns through the expertise of professionals and advisers from the community. The format will include:

    • Resume and cover letter training. Participants may bring their resumes for review and suggested revises.

    • Beauty/Health/Spiritual Elevation.

    • Focused business tips and question-and-answer session.

The session will be more conversational, rather than featured speakers. Attire will be T-shirts and jeans to create an informal yet informed atmosphere and to create unity among participants.

"We want to have a great open session with women, where we're elbow-to-elbow. We're asking participants to wear jeans and a T-shirt because you can put on a cute jacket, accessories and stilettos with your jeans and T-shirt but when we take off the jacket, we're all still in T-shirts and jeans – and we're all women," Davis said.

"Your struggle may be in finance, whereas another person's may be with their job, self-esteem or personal issues. This session is about who you are, where you want to be and how to get there."

Light refreshments will be served. The first five women to register will receive a free individualized 30-minute consultation for their business or a revised resume and cover letter.

A second workshop is slated for April 26, "Overcomer: How to Celebrate Your Breakthrough" and will feature Shannon Brown, owner of Laces by Lexi in Jackson, as keynote speaker. Details will be announced at a later date.
