Man questioned and released in recent shooting

MERIDIAN —     A man Meridian Police Department authorities believed may have been involved in a shooting incident Tuesday evening was released after officers determined they didn't have enough evidence to hold him.

MPD Lt. John Griffith said the man was briefly taken into custody and questioned about an incident that reportedly occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the 800 block of Highway 19 North.

"Officers were responding to several calls of shots being fired in that area and when they talked to several people officers were given a good description of a person who was seen in the area immediately after the shots were fired," Griffith said. "Officers were able to locate this person but during questioning and after searching for any physical evidence, let the man go."

Griffith said although MPD authorities were sure shots had actually been fired, they could not find any evidence of what the bullets may have hit. Griffith said homes and vehicles were inspected in the area but no clear indications of where the bullets may have gone was found.
