MPD working robbery incidents

    Detectives with the Meridian Police Department are investigating robbery incidents that reportedly occurred over the weekend.

    According to a press release issued through the office of MPD Lt. John Griffith, police officers responded at 5:51 a.m. Sunday to the 900 block of Deer Run Drive in the Willow Bend area off Highway 19 South. Officers arrived, the release said, at 5:56 a.m. and determined the victim was robbed by a black man who was wielding a screwdriver. The victim described the suspect only as a short black male.

    Later on Sunday, around 11:50 a.m., the release said the victim told officers his bike was stolen by three black men. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Drive, the release stated. The victim was not injured during the incident.

    Another robbery incident, this time in the 5200 block of Highway 493 in the northern part of the city, was reported. Officers arrived on the scene at 11:55 p.m. Sunday and determined a convenience store clerk was robbed at gunpoint, the release said. The clerk told officers an armed white man came into the store and demanded money from the cash register. There was no information as to how the suspect fled the area or an accurate description of the suspect.

    All these cases are currently under investigation and detectives with the MPD urge residents if they have information pertaining to these or other crimes in the city to call Crime Stoppers at 601-485-1860. Their information could lead to a substantial cash reward.
