MERIDIAN —     The Lauderdale Community Development Club has been named the 2012 Club of the Year, the Lauderdale County Extension office announced earlier this week.

The club earned the award for creating a neighborhood watch, providing high school seniors with scholarships and for continuing "to work to improve the quality of life for their community," according to a press release.

The club received a trophy, plaque and a cash award for the Club of the Year designation.

Collinsville Community Development Club was recognized as the second place club followed by Suqualena Community Development Club, which took third place.

There are eight community development clubs in Lauderdale County. The clubs are sponsored by the Mississippi State University – Extension Service, East Mississippi Business Development Corporation – Chamber of Commerce, the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors and local businesses and individuals.
