Mother, child shot outside apartments

MERIDIAN —     A mother and child were shot outside of Eastern Gardens Apartments in Meridian around 5 p.m. Monday.

    The woman, 23, and her 1-year-old child were both shot in the arm according to Capt. Dean Harper of the Meridian Police Department.

    He said the injuries were non life threatening and that the mother was expected to be released from a local hospital last night.

    Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crimestoppers at (601) 485-1860. Or, Harper said people with information can find the Meridian Police Department's Facebook page, where there is information on how to leave an anonymous message.

    The last reported shooting in the area was on Nov. 11, when a man standing outside his residence at Eastern Gardens Apartments was shot. His wound was considered non life threatening as well. The apartments are located in the 200 block of 23rd Street.
