Ross places in top 10 of national DYW program

MERIDIAN —     Lauderdale County's Distinguished Young Woman for 2013, Mackenzie Ross, placed in the top 10 during the program's national competition Saturday in Mobile, Ala. Ross, along with the other top 10 finalists, received a $2,500 scholarship.

    Ross is the daughter of Jim and Cindy Ross and plans to pursue a career as a legal analyst at the University of Alabama.

    Washington's Nicole Rinard was named 2013 Distinguished Young Woman with a $20,000 scholarship. South Carolina's Rachel Tunney was named first runner-up with a $15,000 scholarship and Florida's Ciera Horton was named second runner-up with a $10,000 scholarship.

    Program participants competed in interview, scholastics, talent, self-expression, and fitness.

    The Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) program is a national scholarship program.
