MERIDIAN —     Meridian Police Department authorities are searching for a man they say committed an armed robbery in Meridian Monday night.

MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the MPD's Criminal Investigation Division, says just before 7:30 p.m. Monday, MPD officers responded to a report of an armed robbery. When officers arrived at the location in the 4900 block of Poplar Springs Drive, they were advised a black man armed with a handgun entered the business and robbed the clerk of her purse. Harper says when the suspect demanded more, the clerk tased the suspect twice before the suspect was able to escape from the business.

    The clerk was not harmed.

The suspect is described as between 18 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds. The suspect is said to have been wearing a black T-shirt with gray writing on it and dark jeans. He fled the business in a gray or silver Ford Taurus.
