The Meridian Star
MERIDIAN — Senior Chief Anthony Blackledge, left, and Cmdr. Michael Davies, the commanding officer of the USS Jackson (LCS 6) Pre-Commissioning Unit, are welcomed by Capt. Charles C. Moore II, commanding officer of Naval Air Station Meridian, and Arjen Lagendijk, president of Mississippi Council of the Navy League, at a Navy League board meeting on board NAS Meridian June 11. The USS Jackson, named for the Mississippi's capital city, is an entirely new breed of U.S. Navy warships. A fast, agile, and networked surface combatant, the littoral combat ship is modular focused design that provides combatant commanders the required warfighting capabilities and operational flexibility to ensure maritime dominance. The christening of the ship is set for early 2014 with the commissioning in 2015 in a Mississippi coastal city.
