67 years and counting for Optimists' pancake breakfast

MERIDIAN — Terri Ferguson Smith

Well into its seventh decade, the Meridian Downtown Optimist Club, is again planning its annual pancake jubilee.

Cindy White is president of the club.

"Our main goal for the Optimist Club is to benefit the youth of our community and help support them," White said. "We want to make it a better place for them to be. We have the benefit each year to raise money for those youth activities."

Youth programs that receive funding from the Optimist Club include the Boy Scouts, T-ball, junior golf; Boys and Girls Club, Care Lodge, Hope Village, and Wesley House.

The all-you-can-eat pancake meal will be Feb. 25, 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Temple Theater Ballroom. In addition to pancakes, there will be sausage, soft drinks, coffee and milk. Usually the club serves between 2,000 and 2,500 people.

Tickets are $5 and are available at or from any Optimist Club member.

Tickets will also be sold at the door.
