Officials with the Meridian Police Department said the initial hearing of man charged with murder in the Friday night shooting death of a teenager, has been pushed back to later this week.
Lyndell Marcell Pritchard, 26, who is charged with murder and two counts of possession of stolen firearms, was scheduled to have his initial hearing Monday, but the hearing was moved to Wednesday said Meridian Police Department Detective Dareall Thompson said.
The victim in the shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Kelvin Harris.
"Officers with the Meridian Police Department responded to 210 35th Avenue Friday around midnight, in connection to a call of a male victim being shot," Thompson said. "Once officers arrived on scene they discovered Harris had been shot in the head."
Thompson said Metro Ambulance was called and Harris was pronounced dead on scene.
"An hour later after Harris was pronounced dead, the Gang Task Force took Pritchard into custody in the 2600 block of Highland Avenue," Thompson said. "The case is still under investigation. We want to make sure everyone involved in this incident has been caught."
This is not Pritchard's first run in with law enforcement. Over the past year he has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon two separate times, possession of marijuana multiple times, and simple assault.
Pritchard was out on bond for two counts of aggravated assault, filed in February of this year, at the time of the shooting.
Pritchard is in custody in the Lauderdale County jail without bond until his Wednesday initial hearing.
