One man died and three others were injured Friday following a one vehicle accident that occurred off of Interstate 20 near the Toomsuba exit.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West said 23-year-old Howard L. Adams, of Brownwood Texas, died after he was ejected from the 2001 Ford SUV he was driving. Adams was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.

Another man and two children in the SUV suffered minor injures and were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. The accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. at the 164 mile marker in the eastbound lanes.

"The driver was not wearing a restraint and was ejected out of the vehicle when the SUV left the road, turned on its side and flipped," West said.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said Adams died of a massive head injury and was killed on impact.

Cobler believes the passengers were wearing their seat belts when the wreck occurred.

Friday afternoon, investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the wreck.
