MPD authorities investigate robberies

MERIDIAN —    A trio of robbery incidents have detectives with the Meridian Police Department busy trying to locate the suspects.

MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said no one was injured in any of the three incidents.

Harper said at about 5:30 a.m. Monday a woman reported to police officers she was robbed at gunpoint by a black man she thought was going to help her after her car broke down. Harper said the woman told authorities her car broke down on Highway 19 South and the suspect, who was driving a red four door car, pulled up behind her vehicle. Instead of helping her with her car, the man, described as being average height and weight, pulled a handgun and robbed her, and drove away in his car, the woman told police.

At about 9 p.m. Monday, a man reported to MPD authorities he was robbed at gunpoint as he was going to a nearby store by a black man who was driving a red Chrysler. The victim told authorities the incident occurred in a parking lot located in the 1800 block of 19th Street near James IGA Grocery. The victim said the suspect was young and had freckles, stood about five feet, 10 inches tall and was wearing a white T-shirt. The suspect got back into the car and sped away, Harper says.

Just barely an hour later, Harper says police were called to the Dollar General Store in College Park to a report of an armed robbery.

Harper says the clerk told authorities a black male, described as standing about six feet tall, came into the store and as he exhibited a gun, robbed the clerk of an undetermined amount of cash. The clerk told authorities the suspect fled in a dark colored car. The suspect was further said to have been wearing a yellow polo shirt at the time of the incident.

If you have any information on any of these armed robberies, call Crimestoppers at (601) 485-1860.
