Fundraiser to benefit volunteer fire station

MERIDIAN —     For the second consecutive year, members of the Meehan Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will conduct a fundraiser in hopes of collecting enough money to help them acquire much needed equipment.

"We are all volunteers and we love what we do," says Margie Blackwell, one of the organizers of the event. "This is for a good cause that benefits everyone."

The fundraiser will take place at the fire department on July 20. Barbecue plates with all the fixings from Cooks BBQ in Newton will be available for $6 a plate.     There will be a bouncy house for kids, games, such as "dunk a fireman," a bake sale and plenty of other food items.

Flea market spots will be available for $10, Blackwell said.

"Come out early and pick you out a prime spot to sell your things," Blackwell said.

The money raised will go toward buying turnout gear for firefighters and restocking the rescue truck. Although turnout gear is built tough, fighting fires can be really hard on gear.

The event will take place at the Meehan Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until all the food and fun has been exhausted.

For advanced ticket sales, call Margie Blackwell at 601-604-3520 or Wayne Robinson at 601-934-6389.
