Troop H goes to one day sales of gun permits

MERIDIAN —     Citing the sharp decline in concealed carry gun permit sales, officials with Troop H of the Mississippi Highway patrol in Meridian have announced that the permits will be sold just one day out of the week.

Andy West, public affairs officer for Troop H, said the number of days residents can come into the Highway 11/80 headquarters has been trimmed from two days to one because the number of people wanting the permits has fallen dramatically. For that reason, West said, instead of Monday and Tuesday, concealed carry gun permits will only be available on Mondays from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.

"We just haven't seen the demand for the permits recently," West says. "So we are going to scale back. If the need arises, if the demand gets too much for the one day, then we will likely go back to two days but for right now we are going to go to one day."

The new schedule begins July 8 West says.
