Drug bust in Meridian

A residence in Woodview Estates was raided by members of the Meridian Police Department's SWAT Team and agents of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force Monday afternoon yielding undetermined amounts of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and weapons.

The operation was requested by an agent of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force as he was working on suspected drug activity in the area Monday. At about 3 p.m. the SWAT Team, consisting of MPD officers specially trained in apprehending suspects in an urban environment, were called in to spearhead the raid. Between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. the team along with EMDTF agents launched their entry into the residence. Several people were taken into custody but no formal charges were filed late Monday as the investigation continued.
