Meridian Police Department officials say that authorities are investigating incidents that were reported over the weekend.
MPD Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, says the armed robbery reports involved an incident that occurred at a business while the other was allegedly committed against an individual.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday, Harper says a lone black man who had his face covered to hide his identity entered the Paradise Food Mart and robbed the clerk at gunpoint. Harper says the gunman entered the store located in the 4400 block of 20th Street and pointed a handgun at the clerk while demanding the money from the register. The suspect, described only by the clerk as being of average height and weight, took an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot. Harper says the clerk was not hurt during the incident.
A few hours later, at about 4 a.m. Sunday, patrol officers again responded to a report of an armed robbery. Officers located the victim in a parking lot located in the 1900 block of B Street. The victim told police he was robbed at gunpoint by three young black men. The victim told authorities after taking his money the three men fled the area in a maroon Cadillac. The victim was not injured.
Harper says shortly after officers left the victim four subjects were taken into custody who authorities believe may have been involved in the incident. Harper says no charges have been filed as yet and that detectives continue to look into the incident.
In an earlier case, MPD authorities arrested 54-year old Eddie D. Willis of Meridian and charged him with felony shoplifting. Bond for Willis was set at $35,000, Harper says.
If anyone has information pertaining to these incidents or any other crime they are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 601-485-1860 with their information. A cash reward may be available if the information leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
