The Meridian Star
MERIDIAN — The East Mississippi Business Development Corporation recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Poplar Springs Elementary School Carrol Wicker Measuring Garden. After a lot of hard work, the Art Quest students at Poplar Springs, led by teacher Nancy Ray, have completed their measuring garden. The students created different tools of measurement, many from scrap metal and salvaged items, to display for years to come. The various items measure all kinds of things like time, height, weight and so on. The garden is dedicated to Dr. Carrol Wicker, who was a grandparent of Poplar Springs students. She often volunteered at the school and made math and science contributions. Upon her death a year ago, she left a donation to be used by the teachers for school projects. This garden is what the students created.
