MERIDIAN —     MAYHEW – With the economy looking stronger, and new jobs on the horizon, East Mississippi Community College’s Golden Triangle campus will host the annual East Mississippi Job Fair on Thursday.

The fair is set for 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Lyceum auditorium.

Local, state and national employers will be on hand, but don’t come late, warns EMCC District Director of Job Placement Linda Gates, because employers need time to evaluate candidates.

“If you’re looking for a job, this is a perfect opportunity to speak to a number of potential employers all in one day,” Gates said.

“There will be many familiar faces at the job fair, business and industry leaders who have made the Golden Triangle area an exciting economic development center. We will also have one large new employer, Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi. Yokohama’s plant is under construction now in West Point. About 500 people will be employed when Phase 1 is complete – and that’s just the first of several phases, each of which involve 500 more jobs.”

For people interested in working at Yokohama, EMCC is the place to be.

“EMCC is charged with training the workforce for Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi,” said Dr. Raj Shaunak, EMCC vice president for Workforce and Community Services.

“As we have in the past with other local industries, we will work with people to make sure they have the appropriate skills to work in Yokohama’s most technologically advanced plant.”

The college’s Workforce Services team will be available to discuss minimum requirements for Yokohama applicants: high school diploma or GED, Silver-level WorkKeys test score and completion of EMCC’s Basic Manufacturing Skills class.

The list of employers signed up to participate in the job fair is available on EMCC’s website,; look for the East Mississippi Job Fair link on the home page. This list will be updated until the final day before the fair. Additional resources can be found on EMCC’s website, including a Job Fair Survival Guide, which can help job-seekers get the most out of their visit.
