Downtown - After 5 Alive continues Thursday

MERIDIAN —     The fifth concert in the Downtown – After 5 Alive spring series is set for this Thursday, April 25 at Dumont Plaza on 22nd Avenue downtown.  Last Thursday’s concert featured Meridian musician and performer Steve Wilkerson, who highlighted the release of his first album.

This week’s featured performer is Mississippi blues singer and harmonica player Grady Champion.  Mr. Champion’s harmonica abilities have been compared to those of Sonny Boy Williamson, and his voice has been compared to that of Robert Johnson and of Luther Allison.  Mr. Champion’s performances are known for their high energy and enthusiastic audience response.  He has released six albums.

Leesa Harris, event chair said we could not have this great event without our sponsors:  “We owe a debt of gratitude to Beyond Capital Financial Management, our Presenting Sponsor for the series, as well as our Weekly Sponsor for this fifth week’s concert, Lala Enterprises.  Their support enables us bring this great live music to our community,” stated Harris.

The food vendor this week will be Circle S with their delicious fried fish, hamburgers and a few surprise treats.  Kim Sutton and her daughters are again handling the children’s activities including face painting, sidewalk art and great diversions.

The Downtown – After 5 Alive series provides the residents of the Meridian area with the opportunity to enjoy a weekly, family-oriented, free mini-festival event thanks to Meridian Main Street.   The events last from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. featuring local and regional artists and musicians headlining the events.

The dates for the remaining events are Apr. 25 and May 2.  So join Meridian Main Street this Thursday, April 25, for a night of fun, entertainment, and good food.

In addition to our sponsors, these concerts receive financial support from grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the Mississippi Main Street Association.
