MERIDIAN —     A domestic disturbance resulted in injuries on Monday night at a trailer park on Fairchild Road in the Lost Gap community.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department was called Monday night to respond to a domestic disturbance turned shooting.

The incident happened at 7:50 p.m., according to Ward Calhoun, chief deputy of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.

Calhoun said a 71-year-old individual allegedly shot a 38-year-old male because he was in fear for his safety.

"The 71-year-old individual who shot the victim did so from inside his vehicle shooting out, based upon the fact that he was in fear for his well-being," said Calhoun. "When Lauderdale County Deputies arrived on scene both the victim and the individual who shot him were still there."

The victim was shot once in the chest and taken to local hospitals where he recently underwent surgery. The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said they don't yet plan on charging anyone in the shooting.

Calhoun said the case will be presented to the next available Lauderdale County Grand Jury.
