A Meridian resident who saw what appeared to be a burglary in progress stayed on the phone with dispatchers until police arrived and took the person into custody.
Meridian Police Department Lt. John Griffith said Thursday morning that Stephen P. Skinner has now been charged with one count of burglary.
Griffith said at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a resident called 911 to report a suspicious person at a home located in the 3900 block of 35th Avenue. She gave the dispatchers a description of the suspect and told dispatchers the person had run into a wooded area behind a home.
When officers arrived they surrounded the area and the suspect, now thought to have been Skinner, was taken into custody in the 3200 block of 37th Avenue.
Skinner is also being questioned about a second home that was possibly burglarized in the area at about the same time, Griffith said, but no additional charges have been filed.
In an unrelated case, MPD detectives charged 22-year-old Brian Michael Pierce of Decatur for burglary of a vehicle. Griffith said this arrest is in connection with an incident that occurred on October 5. Pierce's bond was set at $20,000.
Griffith said on Wednesday, detectives arrested and charged 29-year-old Shakobee Rush with commercial burglary. This charge stemmed from an incident that occurred on September 23, 2013.
