Benefit ride set up for child

MERIDIAN —    Christopher Moseley, who will turn 1 shortly, was diagnosed as a little person. The son of Todd and Karrie Moseley of Quitman, Christopher Moseley has had to endure some serious issues with his condition. According to his cousin, Brandy Gonzales, the little boy has been a champion through everything he has faced in such a short life.

"He has gone through the things very well," Gonzales said. "He is a strong little boy and is just a light of inspiration to me and so many other people."

Gonzales said on July 25, 2013, at only nine-months-old, Christopher Moseley had to have decompression surgery, or brain surgery, to enlarge his foramen mangum to help prevent the risk of damaging his spinal cord. Gonzales said as he gets more active the threat of his harming himself increased, thereby making the surgery important.

Today, a Benefit Ride for Christopher will begin here in Meridian and conclude in Quitman where the family will meet those who participate. Gonzales, who is organizing the ride, said the money raised will go toward the family's expenses in treating their young son.

"He still has to undergo another surgery to have his adenoids removed," Gonzales said. "Not to mention all the trips the family has had to make to Birmingham for follow up visits."

The ride is open to all bikes, clubs, groups, cars and trucks. Entry into the event is a $15 donation and registration will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 9:45 a.m. at the old Sears building on 22nd Avenue South across from the new Meridian Police Department.

Gonzales said the ride will take off at 10 a.m., ending in the parking lot of the Multi-Purpose Building in Quitman where Christopher and his family will meet everyone.

"We will be giving away prizes we have received through sponsorships of the benefit," Gonzales said. "I think everyone will have fun and be impressed with Christopher when they meet him. He is a special little boy."
