1 charged, 1 sought in burglary, kidnapping

MERIDIAN —    The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department has charged one person and is asking the public's help in locating another in connection with a Wednesday burglary in which a woman was bound with duct tape and put in a closet.

Terrell Lamar Wilson, 27, has been charged with burglary, armed robbery, kidnapping and felony possession of a firearm. Wilson is in custody in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on a $105,000 bond.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Jazmine Lashae Ramsey, 19, on charges of armed robbery, burglary and kidnapping.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said a male and a female entered the unlocked door of a home in the 2300 block of Russell Mt. Gilead Road Wednesday and confronted a woman inside the home.

"They took the female and bound her with duct tape and put her in a closet," Calhoun said. "They then began looking through the house."

The homeowner, who was outside at the time of the break-in, entered the home and struggled with the two burglars, who ran outside, one of them firing two shots from a gun taken from the house that belonged to the homeowner.

"We don't believe they were firing at him (the homeowner)," Calhoun said. "We believe they were trying to scare him."

K-9 units were used to track the suspects, who had run into the woods. Wilson was found and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, a partially clad woman, later identified as Ramsey, exited the woods and approached deputies.

"She became a person of interest as she approached us indicating she has been the victim of domestic violence," Calhoun said. "She went to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. During the course of injuries, she snuck out."

Calhoun said Ramsey was not in custody at the time.

During a search of the woods, deputies found face masks, clothing and a gun that had been discarded under a tree.

"Our investigation is ongoing," Calhoun said. "We need the community's help in locating Ramsey."

Anyone with information about Ramsey's location is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-485-1860.
