Three juveniles caught in the act

MERIDIAN —     Thanks in large part to a tip from a county resident, three 17-year-old boys are now in custody after they were allegedly caught in the act of burglarizing a home near Collinsville.

Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday earlier that morning Lt. Paul Earley was called to an area of Rocky Ridge Road where previously there had been a number of burglaries and thefts.

"The tip was precise and timely in that it gave our deputy time to get there and take these people into custody," Calhoun said. "We always appreciate the assistance of the public in stopping these kinds of crimes."

Calhoun said when Earley arrived on the scene he saw the teens in a home in the process of taking items out. Earley arrested the teenagers.

Calhoun said investigators are still working on the case to see if the juveniles are connected to other crimes reported recently.
