Changes are expected to be in the works at Meridian City Hall, but the one person who knows the details isn't giving any hints just yet.
Mayor-elect Percy Bland will have his first City Council meeting as mayor on Tuesday. He has been working with his transition team and on plans for city department heads for the last few weeks, but he isn't ready to announce who will stay and who will go.
All department heads and the city attorney serve at the will of the mayor, who can terminate their employment. However, new hires must be approved by the City Council.
So the department heads who could be affected by changes in the administration are: police chief, fire chief, public works director, chief administrative officer, finance and records, and community development director.
All will be made known on Tuesday when the council meets at 9 a.m. at City Hall for its first July meeting, Bland said. Councilmen and the mayor will be sworn in on Monday.
"I have talked with all the department heads," Bland said earlier this week. "I still have a couple of them to talk to."
The public is invited to the swearing-in ceremony at 11 a..m. Monday at the Temple Theater, 2320 Eighth Street. Some invitations have been sent out to friends, family and supporters who will have reserved seating, but no one is required to have an invitation.
A reception will be held Monday afternoon, 1-3 p.m. on the lawn of City Hall. Bland said. That will give the public a better opportunity to meet and greet the mayor and council, Bland said. Refreshments will be available.
