MDOT to host statewide coordination summit

MERIDIAN —     The Mississippi Department of Transportation is extending an invitation to persons interested in increasing mobility options in their communities to participate in the 5th Annual Statewide Coordination Summit.

The Summit will be held on July 12-13, at the Jackson Convention Complex located at 105 Pascagoula St. This year's theme is "The Survivor Series: Meeting the Challenges in a Changing Economy."

This two-day event is free to the public. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and program activities begin at noon on Tuesday, July 12 and conclude at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13. Lunch will be provided on both days.

Public Transit Director Shirley Wilson stated that "This year's Summit will be an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to engage transportation providers about not only the needs in local communities but to also discuss practical solutions."

The goal of the summit is to provide participants with the opportunity to discuss resourceful service approaches to not only survive in this economy, but to excel through effective partnership building, decision making, and strategic planning. Activities include reports on local planning efforts and statewide initiatives aimed at improving transportation coordination.

Participants who are encouraged to attend the Summit include public officials, public and private transportation providers, consumers, human and social service agencies, disability advocacy groups, state agencies, health care providers, faith-based and community organizations, university researchers and students, along with other groups and organizations that are interested in improving the mobility options in their communities.
