MERIDIAN —     A man Meridian and Marion police authorities arrested Thursday has been identified as James Terryl Marquis Irby, 23, of 6252 Chickasawhay Place in Marion.

Irby has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and as a fugitive from justice. Irby has been placed on a $250,000 bond for each of the armed robbery and aggravated assault charges. According to arrest records there is a hold order that exists for Irby stemming from an arrest warrant from Georgia. The records do not show what the specific charge may be.

The armed robbery and aggravated assault charges stem an incident that reportedly occurred Wednesday morning at The Chimney Store, located at 5300 Fifth Street. During that incident, Irby allegedly robbed the clerk at gunpoint and then beat the clerk. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His wounds were not considered life threatening, officials said.

Around noon, detectives and Direct Action Response Team (DART) unit members went to an unspecified location in Meridian trying to locate Irby but he was not at the residence. Minutes later, Meridian detectives received a call from Marion Police Department authorities who said they had a location pinpointed for Irby. Meridian Police Department Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the MPD's Criminal Investigation Division, said a citizen's tip to authorities of the Marion Police Department was instrumental in finding Irby. A short time later the two departments met in Marion and mapped out a plan.

At about 1:50 p.m., detectives with the Meridian and Marion police departments, along with members of the Meridian Police Department's DART unit, served a warrant at a duplex at 6262 Chickasawhay Place in Marion. Irby answered the door and was taken into custody without further incident.
