For Golden Triangle job seekers, walking into a room with approximately 50 potential employers is valuable. Knowing exactly what those employers need from an employee is priceless.
The Golden Triangle Regional Development Link will add that perspective to The East Mississippi Job Fair by leading three informative sessions, free and open to the public, to address what skills and credentials local employers, both current and prospective, need from the local workforce.
The East Mississippi Job Fair will kick off at East Mississippi Community College’s Golden Triangle Campus in Mayhew Wednesday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. and run through 2:30 p.m. Employers and educational institutions will have representatives on hand to accept resumes and answer questions.
The Link and EMCC representatives will lead sessions in the seminar room in EMCC’s Center for Manufacturing Technology Excellence at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Linda Gates, EMCC’s district director for Work Based Learning and Job Placement, says the Link is dealing with a significant uptick in economic development and will continue to partner with EMCC’s instructional and Workforce Services division, as it has for years, to provide the training industries need. But the Job Fair sessions will explain those necessary skills and credentials to unacquainted job seekers.
“We have a new megasite in West Point. Starkville has a lot of leads with its university research and development capabilities. Lowndes has its industrial park up and going. There are jobs posted right now –good paying jobs with benefits—that need a trained workforce. And these sessions will explain how we’ve aligned our programs to meet those needs,” said Gates.
All of the usual services associated with the East Mississippi Job Fair will be available, as well. EMCC counselors will be on hand to speak with interested individuals about educational opportunities in the areas of academics, career-technical programs and Workforce Services, as well as available financial aid.
Gates encourages all visitors to arrive dressed as though they were attending a job interview, to bring updated resumes, to make childcare arrangements as needed and to visit www.eastms.edu and click on the community link to get to the Job Fair link and the Job Fair Survival Guide, listed websites and job openings of registered employers, directions to the Job Fair and more.
