Chili cook-off for a cause

MERIDIAN — Poplar Springs United Methodist Church hosted a Chili Cookoff and Bone Marrow search for 20 month old Dawson Smith who has a rare genotype deficiency that affects his immune system. 106 people got “swabbed” to see if they were a potential donor and about $2,000 was raised. Above: Charlyn King and family offer up their Burning Sulpher Chili which won most unique. Middle: Celebrity judges Percy Bland and Terry C Burton give the names of winners to event organizer Ivy Torrance as Mike and Emily Smith, Dawson’s parents look on. Bottom: Larry Hiliard collects the award for “Best all around Chili”.
